Working Groups and Country Committees are the building blocks of the US-ASEAN Business Council. By organizing members around areas of common interest and creating statements of group policy, they ground Council activities firmly in the interests of Council members. Working from a yearly agenda, they play a critical role in promoting more market-friendly policies and regulations and resolving complex regional problems in ASEAN. Groups connect at least four times a year to refresh the working agenda and review accomplishments and goals. These meetings provide a forum for members to collaborate on important issues, as well as to plan strategic partnerships and alliances. Council coordinators drive the agenda in collaboration with group leaders.

 

A formal call for expressions of interest in leadership positions are held in May each year with vacant positions available on a rolling basis. Leadership opportunities are reserved for Chairman’s Council members. The Working Group and Country Committee Chairs and Vice-Chairs are listed below along with the name and contact information for the committee coordinators.

Leadership Opportunities:

• The primary role of the Chair and Vice Chairs is to give direction to the Council regarding the priorities of companies working in the sector or country, based on member suggestions and input.

• Both the Chair and Vice-Chairs should commit to having a representative present at major country or committee events, providing input for work plans and issues papers, and being represented on and assisting with the leadership of business missions to Southeast Asia.
• The Chair should be prepared for meetings on long-term planning, and take responsibility for approving Council press releases and official letters.
• Each Vice-Chair should plan to take the lead on addressing a specific issue or area of responsibility within the Working Group or Country Committee.
