Universities in Brunei Darussalam should be encouraged and given incentives to come up with new innovation and technologies and work together with small and medium enterprises to market these technologies. President of the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET), Professor Andy Hopper said innovation is "alive and well in the world even in Brunei Darussalam" especially with modern communications technology where a rural spot can be easily reached via digital world.

Speaking at the event held at the Civil Service Institute, the Health Minister underscored the need to deliver quality healthcare for the elderly as global trends indicate that ageing population will continue with the increase in life expectancy.
 
HRH urges Islamic financial firms to adopt PPP models | Brunei Times, June 19
"As everyone is aware of, the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam is in the midst of implementing its 10th National Development Plan. This includes the initiative to undertake some viable projects under the umbrella of private-public-partnership (PPP)," said HRH. He felt that there was another area where Islamic finance could play more active role and make positive and meaningful contribution to the socio-economic development and economic growth of the country.
 
Brunei becomes member of FAO | BruDirect, June 17
Brunei Darussalam is now officially a member of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. The admission ceremony took place at the FAO Headquarters in Rome, Italy during the FAO Conference which started on June 15, 2013 and will end on June 22, 2013.

"It is very easy to show that Brunei's carbon emission baseline can come down fast as a result of some unexpected circumstances," explained Fenn in response to a question asked by The Brunei Times regarding the current progress of trying to limit carbon emissions in the country. The High Commissioner pointed out that efforts should be made to ensure that energy in Brunei is consumed in a smarter way.
