(Jakarta, December 8) The US-ASEAN Business Council (US-ABC) hosted a farewell reception in honor of H.E. Dato Paduka Lim Jock Hoi, the outgoing Secretary-General of ASEAN, in Jakarta. Secretary-General Lim has been a trusted partner for US-ABC since the beginning of his leadership in January 2018. Over the past five years, the Secretary-General has stewarded the U.S.-ASEAN dialogue relations into a higher level. The U.S. business community is particularly grateful for his friendship and immense support to making ASEAN a more open and inclusive region for the private sector.
The reception featured some remarks from The Honorable Ambassador Yohannes Abraham from the U.S. Mission to ASEAN, US-ASEAN Business Council representatives, and Secretary-General Lim himself.
In welcoming the Guests of Honor and attendees, Mr. Taufikurrahman, the Council’s Chief Representative for Indonesia, highlighted “with SG Lim’s support, US-ABC has initiated many new partnerships with various ASEAN bodies in emerging sectors. We appreciate the attention, assistance, and support given, which paved the way for closer relations and engagement between US-ABC and members with the ASEAN Member States and the ASEAN Secretariat. We are indeed grateful to have the legacy of SG Lim’s leadership. We look forward to preserving the legacy and enhancing our effort to build a stronger relationship between ASEAN and the United States in the future.”
“As ASEAN Secretary-General, SG Lim oversaw tremendous progress and evolution of ASEAN towards a more developed and integrated region. Under SG Lim’s stewardship, ASEAN has advanced a multitude of key regional initiatives to benefit businesses and consumers across Southeast Asia – these include the ASEAN Single Window, ASEAN Customs Transit System, and ASEAN Low-Value Shipment Program, which would lay a strong foundation for ASEAN’s digital economy and e-commerce to prosper for years to come,” said Mrs. Maya Sarininta, President Director at UPS Cardig International. “SG Lim’s support and partnership have been invaluable to the business community in the region, and we truly appreciate his leadership in enabling businesses and communities to thrive in the region even during some of the toughest times over the past five years.”
The farewell reception was held in conjunction with the 2022 ASEAN Business Mission, where the business delegation of senior executives from U.S. companies had the opportunity to meet with Jakarta-based ASEAN stakeholders, including with Secretary-General Lim and other Secretariat officials. The Council’s members were joined by ASEAN Secretariat officials, ASEAN Ambassadors and members of the diplomatic community in Jakarta who expressed the highest appreciation for Secretary-General Lim. This event was generously supported by UPS and Marriott International.
