Malaysia is on track to embrace AEC in 2015, having implemented 88 percent of the measures and milestones committed in the AEC Strategic Schedule. Out of the 331 AEC measures, 261 measures had been implemented as of July 2013.
Top Story of the Week: Obama Cancels Trip to Philippines and Malaysia

Early today it was announced that President Obama has cancelled his trip next week to Malaysia and the Philippines. Secretary Kerry will lead delegations to both countries, instead of President Obama. The president is still scheduled to attend the APEC summit in Bali.
Alongside the 68th UN General Assembly in New York last week, ASEAN endorsed Malaysia as its official candidate for non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the term 2015-2016.

Top Story: UMNO supreme council polls postponed
The Umno supreme council elections have been postponed from Oct 5 to Oct 19 while the nomination of candidates has been pushed from Sept 7 to Sept 28. Party secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the amendments were made after considering requests from Umno divisions and branches. Tengku Adnan said the change in dates were also due to Chinese president Xi Jinping and US president Barack Obama visiting the country in early October.

Top Story: Govt looking at policy options to strengthen fiscal, macro position, says Najib
The Prime Minister said this in response to Fitch Ratings' concern on Malaysia's public savings and structural budgetary reform that require reforms to stabilise the credit outlook. The rating agency has revised Malaysia's sovereign credit rating outlook from stable to negative while affirming Malaysia's long-term foreign and local currency at 'A-' and 'A', respectively. Najib said the affirmation on the country's long-term foreign and local currency is something positive, while the revision depends on the move that the government makes.
