· Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung welcomed US Treasury Secretary Jack Lew to Hanoi on November 14th, discussing mutual participation in the Trans Pacific Partnership as well as the signing of the Viet Nam–US double taxation avoidance agreement. Dung raised the issue of Vietnam’s eventual recognition as a market economy after years of WTO membership. The Vietnamese Ministry of Finance and US Treasury currently have cooperated on projects in taxes, accounting and customs procedures.

· Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) Managing Director Ravi Menon mapped out a Singaporean plan to make the city state a global insurance hub by 2020. Mr. Menon provided four key components to Singapore’s plan: increasing the market’s supply side capacity, creation by regulators of a demand for insurance, creation of a more robust local marketplace, and fostering a conducive business environment within Singapore for the growth of an insurance industry. Singapore currently hosts 16 of the world’s top 25 reinsurers, but wishes to expand from a regional hub to the global center of the industry.
