(Honolulu, HI) The US-ASEAN Business Council offered its strong support for President Obama's commitment to the ambitious, high-standard, and forward looking Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP). The TPP negotiating partners include four of the ten ASEAN Members, Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore, and Vietnam, and potentially could be a building block for a free trade area of the Asia-Pacific.
"The US-ASEAN Business Council wecomes President Obama's commitment to the TPP and the steps forward that were taken in Hawaii today," said Alexander Feldman, President of the US-ASEAN Business Council. "It's vital that, as negotiations continue, that the US and other negotiating partners continue their support for the orignal framework of the TPP, which sets out to be a comprehensive, high-standards agreement which supports IPR and the continued elimination of barriers to invesmtent throughout the Asia-Pacific."

(Manila, Philippines) The US-ASEAN Business Council, working together with the Philippines Department of Science and Technology-Information Communications Technology Office (DOST-ICTO) and the Business Software Alliance, today concluded a two-day workshop designed to propose specific action plans to facilitate cooperation between the public and private sectors on the successful completion of the ASEAN ICT Master Plan. ASEAN's ICT Master Plan creates key targets to utilize ICT to work towards the goal of an inclusive, vibrant, and integrated ASEAN. The discussions focused on how government and industry could cooperate in creating and implementing initiatives that would drive successful ICT investment and development.
(Vientiane) The US-ASEAN Business Council held its first official Business Mission to Laos in recent memory this week, bringing a delegation of five leading U.S companies to meet the government and discuss possibilities for doing business in the nation. The bilateral relationship between the U.S. and Laos has become closer recently as the U.S. has put more focus on engaging with ASEAN. The mission was co-led by Frances Zwenig of the Council and Tim Doyle of the Coca-Cola Company, the Chair of the Council's Laos Committee.
“Laos is a new frontier for U.S. companies,” said Coca-Cola General Manager for Laos and Thailand Jorge Garduno. “At the Coca-Cola Company, we’re excited about the possibilities for Laos that ASEAN integration and the growing market here offers.”
(Phnom Penh) In a reflection of the growing interest in Cambodia from the U.S. business community, the US-ASEAN Business Council today concluded a two-day Business Mission to Phnom Penh, which saw the Council bring its largest delegation yet of Senior Executives to the Kingdom of Cambodia. The delegation of 11 Leading U.S. Companies was co-led by Frances Zwenig of the Council and Daisy Liu, Manager for International Government Affairs for ConocoPhillips, the Chair of the Council's Cambodia Committee.
