Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao

Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao joined the US-ASEAN Business Council as a Manager in November 2019 and is based in the regional headquarters in Singapore. Her focus area is on health and life sciences, food and agriculture, and customs and trade facilitation.
Prior to joining the Council, Thao spent several years at the ASEAN CSR Network, an ASEAN accredited entity mandated to promote responsible and sustainable business practices in the ASEAN region. Her work focused on promoting good corporate governance, business integrity, and business and human right principles.
Thao started her career as a government official in Vietnam. She was involved in formulating and implementing foreign policies of the Party and Government of Vietnam, including Party-to-Party and people-to-people diplomacy with countries in the Southeast Asian, South Asian and South Pacific regions.
In addition, Thao has worked as an intern and consultant at a number of organisations that range from public sector to private sector, media and academia. These include her attachments to the Vietnam Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vietnam’s leading online newspaper VietnamNet, Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (Singapore), global biopharmaceutical company Sanofi-Aventis (Singapore), and on-demand logistics service provider PUCHO (UK).
Thao received a First-Class Honors undergraduate degree in Journalism and Politics at the Academy of Journalism and Communications (Vietnam). She holds a First-Class Honors Master’s degree in Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Management from the University of Nottingham (UK) as a Chevening Scholar, and a Master’s degree in Public Policy from the National University of Singapore (including a semester at the Seoul National University) as a recipient of the APEC Scholarship.
Thao is passionate about sustainability and a nature and animal lover. She enjoys cooking and playing with her little son during her spare time.
