As part of the Council's AI Workshop Series, the USABC AI Policy Brief will be circulated with the ASEAN Working Group on AI Governance (WG-AI) and other AI government stakeholders during the Council’s regional AI workshop at the ASEAN AI Malaysia Summit. 

The brief outlines the benefits and challenges faced across Southeast Asia as well as foundational enablers and key policy recommendations to unlock the region’s AI opportunity. The brief presents four key policy recommendations, highlighting industry examples of how these recommendations have been put into practice: 

• Enhance interoperability and harmonization to address fragmentation, trust, and safety concerns 

•  Advance trusted, secure AI to strengthen public trust and responsible AI adoption 

• Ensure robust 5G infrastructure across ASEAN to maximize AI adoption in all sectors 

• Promote AI adoption by bridging AI knowledge gaps and encouraging local developer ecosystems and startups
