(Jakarta) The US-Indonesia Business Council of the US-ASEAN Business Council completed a three-day business mission to Indonesia yesterday. The delegation included 54 executives from 27 prominent American companies. The delegates met with top officials including the Vice President, Foreign Minister, Trade Minister and Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR). Discussions with the government focused on a range of issues related to U.S. investments in Indonesia, including a review of specific steps that could attract greater participation in the Indonesian market by U.S. companies.
The size and seniority of the business mission made it clear that despite the global economic crisis, American companies see valuable growth opportunities in Indonesia.
(Manila) The US-ASEAN Business Council led a delegation of senior executives from 11 American companies on a three-day business mission to the Philippines October,15-17, including a lunch meeting with Philippine president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
The delegation included representatives from the Coca-Cola Company, Ford Motors, General Electric, GlaxoSmithKline, Hewlett-Packard, Jhpiego, Johnson & Johnson, Monsanto, Oracle, Pfizer, Unisys, and was co-led by Council Vice President William Marmon and Kandy Anand, President of Coca-Cola Philippines and Chairman of the Council's US-Philippines Business Committee.
"In today's global economic climate the breadth of this mission and range of sectors involved send a clear message on the continued commitment of the American business community to growth and development in the Philippines," William Marmon noted.
(Washington, DC) The US-ASEAN Business Council today announced support for the US decision to commence negotiations to join Singapore, New Zealand, Chile and Brunei in a free trade agreement that could result in a broader Asia-Pacific free trade area.
US-ASEAN Business Council (www.us-asean.org) is a non-profit association of leading US businesses that works with the 10-state ASEAN regional organizations as well as government and private sector players in each country. The Council was formed in 1985.
“The Council supports US entry into the Trans-Pacific Strategic Economic Partnership,” said Council President Matthew Daley.
(Singapore) The US-ASEAN Business Council held its annual consultation with the ASEAN Economic Ministers (AEM) yesterday to discuss trade and investment issues both as they relate to ASEAN integration and individual economy business environments. The Council delegation included senior representatives from AIG, APCO Worldwide, Cargill, Ford Motor Company, General Electric, GlaxoSmithKline, Intel, Johnson & Johnson, Novartis, Philip Morris International, UPS, United Technologies and White & Case LLP. William Marmon, Vice President of the US-ASEAN Business Council, from Washington, DC, led the delegation.
(Vientiane, Laos) The US-ASEAN Business Council held its 12th annual consultation with the ASEAN Customs Directors-General yesterday. The Council delegation included senior representatives from General Motors, IBM, Kraft Foods, Levi Strauss & Co, Motorola, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Unisys. The large delegation to the consultation underscores US business commitment to further strengthen cooperation with the various ASEAN Customs Administrations.
The delegation was led by Andrew Jackson, from IBM's Import Compliance Office and Chairman of the Council's Customs Working Group.
(Phnom Penh) Fifteen business executives from ten US-based companies met today with H.E. Prime Minister Hun Sen and other Cambodian leaders as part of a delegation sponsored by the US ASEAN Business Council.
The mission was led by Matthew Daley, president of the Council, and William Lafferandre, ConocoPhillips Manager of Asia Pacific Business Development.
“Compared to 2006, the number of participating companies has almost doubled for the current Mission, reflecting the increased interest in Cambodia by the American business community,” stated Lafferrandre. “Our delegation is here to deepen existing economic ties between the US and Cambodia and to explore new opportunities. We know Cambodia is experiencing unprecedented growth. We believe our corporations bring the wherewithal to help sustain the growth in ways that will strengthen Cambodia.”
(Bangkok) Four months after the installment of the first democratically elected government to follow the September, 2006 coup, the US-ASEAN Business Council returned to Thailand and met with Prime Minister & Defense Minister Samak Sundaravej, Foreign Affairs Minister Noppadon Patama and other Thai leaders.
“We have brought the first large scale US business mission to Thailand since 2005,” said Matthew Daley, President of the US-ASEAN Business Council and co-leader of the delegation with Laura Hudson, Chevron and Chair of the Council’s Thailand Committee.
Corporate executives from twenty-four of the world’s top companies spent three days in Bangkok and meeting with Prime Minister Samak and his entire economic team.
(Bangkok) The US-ASEAN Business Council and AMCHAM Thailand are pleased to join with Thailand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Royal Thai Embassy in Washington DC to host the "Thailand-US Partnership Success Stories", a Business Summit to be held in Bangkok on 28 April, 2008.
The Summit, to be held at Government House, will be kicked off with a welcome speech by H.E. Mr. Noppadon Pattama, Minister of Foreign Affairs followed by opening remarks by H.E. Mr. Samak Sundaravej, Prime Minister of Thailand. US Ambassador Eric John and Undersecretary Christopher Padilla, US Department of Commerce, will also make remarks.
(Pattaya, Thailand) The US-ASEAN Business Council led a delegation of senior executives from leading American financial institutions to the 2009 ASEAN Finance Ministers Meeting (AFMM) in Pattaya, Thailand, April 8-9. The delegation, comprising representatives from ACE Group, AIG, Citibank, GE Money, Standard & Poor's, and NYSE-Euronext, was led by David Wolf, President, ACE Life, and Chairman of the Council's Financial Services Working Group.
The Council has had the honor of hosting a dialogue with the 10 ASEAN Finance Ministers and American business leaders for the last several years This year's mission to the AFMM is timely given the current global economic and financial crisis and coming on heals of the recent G20 Summit and on the eve of the ASEAN+3 Summit.
With a membership of around 120, most of whom represent America's Fortune 100, the Council represents a broad, dynamic, and highly influential segment of American businesses.
"As Vietnam is seen by an increasing number of foreign businesses as the new frontier for trade and investment in Asia," said Mr. Daley, "an in-country presence of the Council is essential to answering the need of our member corporations for business opportunities here".
About a quarter of the Council's member companies are operating in Vietnam and the number is expected to rise considerably as others are repositioning their business strategies towards the country.
