(Jakarta) The US-ASEAN Business Council is completing a five-day business mission to Indonesia today that includes 57 delegates from 30 prominent American companies, including one that is a non-profit, non-governmental organization. The mission, led by President of the US-ASEAN Business Council Matthew Daley, Chairman of the US-Indonesia Business Council John "Jack" Gehring, and Vice Chairman of the US-Indonesia Business Council Russell King, arrived in Jakarta on Monday for meetings with Indonesia's leadership.
(Manila) The US-ASEAN Business Council is leading a delegation of American companies to the Philippines from October 17-19 as part of its annual Business Mission. Comprising of senior representatives from AES, Chevron, The Coca Cola Company, Ford Motor Company, Monsanto Company, Oracle Corporation, Time Warner Inc., Tyco Fire and Security, Unisys Philippines, and UPS, the Mission is co-led by Council President Matthew Daley and Kandy Anand, President, the Coca Cola Company, Philippines Business Unit, and Chairman of the US-Philippines Business Committee.
"We are here because the Philippines is an important market for US companies, and we continue to see tremendous growth opportunities for our businesses as the state of the economy improves" said Mr. Anand. "We are committed to this country, to our partners and customers, to our consumersand most especially to our employees here" he further added.
(New York) Following a year of achievements including joining the WTO and attaining Permanent Normalized Trading Relations with the United States, Vietnam's Prime Minister, Nguyen Tan Dung arrives in New York to address the annual meeting of the United Nations General Assembly on Thursday, September 27. The US-ASEAN Business Council and its Chairman, Martin Sullivan, President & CEO, the American International Group (AIG) are honored to host Prime Minister Dung and his delegation at a roundtable and luncheon on Wednesday, September 26, at AIG headquarters in New York City. The event will be attended by 30 leaders of the United States' foremost corporations.
(New York) Thailand's Prime Minister H.E. Surayud Chulanont met today with American business leaders at a roundtable that was followed by a reception. The event was organized by the US-ASEAN Business Council, and is hosted by Council's Chairman Martin Sullivan, President and CEO of American International Group, Inc (AIG).
"US-Thai relationship will reach the 175th year milestone next year and the historically strong diplomatic, security and economic relationship will continue to grow. We want American businesses to know that Thailand is open for business," said Prime Minister Surayud.
The Council has met three times with Prime Minister Surayud in Bangkok over the past year. Council members discussed their business interests and problems and appreciate the willingness of PM Surayud and his team to meet and hear the concerns.
(Singapore) The US-ASEAN Business Council wrapped up a two-day Senior Executives Business Mission to Singapore on Friday, 21 September. The business delegation comprised of 13 major US companies: APCO Worldwide, The Boeing Company, Business Objects, ConocoPhillips, General Electric International, Hewlett-Packard, InterGen/Island Power, Janssen-Cilag Singapore, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon International Inc, Unisys, UPS, UTC.
The 25-member delegation is co-led by chair of the US-Singapore Business Council of the US-ASEAN Business Council, Mr. Robert Bauerlein, Vice President of International Operations of the Boeing Company, and Mr. Matthew Daley, President of the Council.
(Washington, DC) With Vietnam's recent achievement of Permanent Normal Trade Relations with the United States and the subsequent accession to the World Trade Organization, President of Vietnam H.E. Nguyen Minh Triet visits the U.S. for a week long tour. The US-ASEAN Business Council together with the US Chamber of Commerce is privileged to host President Triet and his delegation for a luncheon in Washington, DC, on Thursday, June 21st. The luncheon will be attended by 400 people from the government, diplomatic, think-tank, and media communities.
(Bandung, Indonesia) The US-ASEAN Business Council held its 11th annual consultation with the ASEAN Customs Directors-General (DGs) in Bandung, Indonesia last week. Members of the Council delegation, which included senior representatives from IBM, Levi Strauss & Co and Kraft Foods Asia, made a series of presentations at the session covering issues related to Supply Chain Security, ASEAN Single Window and other customs related issues. The delegation was led by Andrew Jackson, Chairman of the Council’s Customs Working Group.
(Phnom Penh) The US-ASEAN Business Council is leading a delegation of US businesses to Cambodia. The most recent visit to Cambodia by the Council was a small Mission in 2005. The number of participating companies has increased for this current Mission, reflecting the increased interest in Cambodia by the business community.
“Our delegation is here to deepen existing economic ties between the US and Cambodia and to explore new opportunities. We know Cambodia is experiencing unprecedented growth. We believe our corporations bring the wherewithal to help sustain the growth in ways that will strengthen Cambodia,” said Frances Zwenig, Counselor of the Council, who leads the delegation of nine executives of ConocoPhillips, General Electric Company, Federal Express, ITT Defense and Oracle.
(Washington, DC) Asia Society Washington Center and the US-ASEAN Business Council celebrate the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)'s 40th anniversary with a gala dinner in Washington, featuring Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez delivering the welcome remarks and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong of Singapore delivering the keynote address. The dinner will be attended by 300 people from the government, diplomatic, think-tank, and media communities.
"ASEAN is vital for the United States, both economically and politically. Many people do not realize that ASEAN is the third largest overseas market for US exports, surpassing China. Trade between US and ASEAN reached $169 billion in 2006 and the region hosts more than $80 billion of US direct investment," said Matthew Daley, President of the US-ASEAN Business Council.
(Hanoi) The US-ASEAN Business Council is bringing a delegation of US businesses on a two day mission to Hanoi May 2-4, with a strong signal of confidence and support in the country. The mission consisted of 34 representatives from 18 companies and is led by the Council’s Counselor Frances Zwenig.
"This large delegation of 18 major US corporations -- the first since Permanent Normal Trade Relations were established between the US and Vietnam -- is living proof of the strong economic potential of Vietnam. We are here to explore new investment opportunities and to deepen already existing trade and investment relationships”, said Frances Zwenig.
