Singapore’s Smart Nation and Digital Government Group (SNDGG) will merge with the digital development functions of the Ministry of Communication and Information (MCI) to form an expanded Smart Nation Group. Currently, SNDGG oversees the country’s Smart Nation strategy, digitalization of government services, and the development of digital technologies and capabilities; while MCI leads in the development of the digital economy, including readiness, infrastructure, and regulation.

The larger Smart Nation Group, which will be part of the Prime Minister’s Office, aims to better position the government in advancing the full range of its digital agenda as well as respond effectively to new opportunities and challenges in digital developments. The merger will take effect in phases, with MCI starting administration of the group from October 23. There will be no changes to the status and structures of the statutory boards and agencies under MCI and SNDGG.
