US Congressional Delegation Visits Singapore

On January 22, a five-member delegation led by Representative Young Kim, chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee Indo-Pacific Subcommittee visited Singapore. During the visit, the Congressional delegation met with Deputy Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong, Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen, and Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong. These engagements reiterated the robust partnership between both countries in economic, defense, and emerging domains. Views on regional developments, the geopolitical outlook, and US foreign policy were also discussed. Specific to trade and investments, discussions centered around the importance of US economic engagements in the region through platforms such as the APEC and the IPEF as well as deepening cooperation in the digital and green economies.
 
During the same visit, the US-ASEAN Business Council organized a roundtable with the Congressional delegation and member companies to discuss US economic ties with Singapore and the broader ASEAN community.
 
The delegation, which visited Singapore, Malaysia, and Vietnam for a three-leg trip, was comprised of Representatives Young Kim (R-California), Debbie Lesko (R-Arizona), Kathy Manning (D-North Carolina), Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-Iowa) and Jonathan Jackson (D-Illinois).
