On September 3, over 25 foreign governments attended Beijing’s massive military parade featuring strategic military forces, with leaders from Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Laos, and Myanmar all in attendance.  While bilateral talks stressed closer economic cooperation, regional security, and support for China’s Global Governance Initiative, it also sits against the backdrop of increasing provocations in the South China Sea and a clear awareness of the predominant reginal security challenge.
