Indonesian Ingenuity on Display at Indo Expo 2025

Indonesia’s defense industry appears to be evolving, with Indo Defence 2025 marking a major step in its pursuit of technological autonomy and military innovation. The exhibition showcased leading state-owned manufacturers, including PT Pindad (arms), PT PAL (shipbuilding), PT Dirgantara Indonesia (aerospace), and PT LEN Industri (electronics), highlighting advancements in air, land, and maritime defense systems. Indonesia’s partnership with Türkiye to acquire fifth-generation KAAN fighter jets, along with PAL Indonesia’s seven strategic agreements for naval development and submarine procurement, underscore its growing ambitions for defense modernization. President Prabowo Subianto reinforced defense as central to national sovereignty, unveiling the MV3 EV tactical vehicle while overseeing Rp33 trillion ($1.9 billion USD) in MoUs aimed at expanding Indonesia’s military-industrial base. Additionally, Indonesia’s shipbuilding sector is emerging as a strong regional actor, with 342 shipyards and an annual production capacity of 1 million DWT, positioning the country as a potential key player in maritime defense and vessel innovation. With its expanding industrial footprint and strategic investments, Indonesia is creating the conditions to strengthen its role in Southeast Asia’s defense and security landscape.
