On May 1 Prime Minister Paetongtarn chaired the first meeting of the National AI Committee, underscoring the government’s commitment to building an ecosystem that fosters AI development in Thailand. The Committee outlined strategic guidelines aimed at accelerating AI-driven  digital transformation in Thailand, including raising AI literacy for 10 million users, and cultivating tens of thousands of AI professionals and developers within 2 years. The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES) is leading efforts to position Thailand as a regional AI hub by 2027 and will be promoting investment in AI infrastructure, cloud systems, data centers, and development of open-source AI platforms.

In line with the national AI plan, all government agencies will fully digitalize their operations by 2026, with a projected investment of at least 500 billion baht in digital infrastructure to support this transformation. A center of excellence is being sought for to aid in the acceleration of the development and integration of AI applications and platforms. Thailand has also resumed work on its AI regulatory framework, with the Electronic Transactions Development Agency (ETDA) currently soliciting  public feedback on the draft principles on AI Law. Businesses and industries are being encouraged to adopt AI applications for use in the day to day with particular focus on sectors such as priority sectors such as public health, tourism and agriculture. Talents with credentials in AI and GenAI are being sought after for their in-demand skills and the government remains committed to cultivating an AI workforce as part of its broader digital transformation agenda.

Thailand continues to draw investment from global tech leaders in the recent months and years as it looks to become the leading digital and AI hub of the region. Global Investment Partners (GIP) and Blackrock announced a US$3-5 billion investment in Thailand’s digital infrastructure landscape on May 7, 2025. True Internet Data Center launched Thailand’s first AI Hyperscale Data Center on May 22, 2025, to further strengthen Thailand’s digital infrastructure to support Thailand’s hub ambitions. The BOI praised the new giga data center on marking a historic moment as a Thai company and noted the crucial role it will play in supporting the digital transformation of the Thai economy.
