ASEAN transport ministers formally adopted the ASEAN Transport Sectoral Plan (ATSP) 2026–2030 during the 31st ASEAN Transport Ministerial Meeting held last November 20, 2025 in Nay Pyi, Myanmar. Key elements of the new transport plan include the harmonization of standards, enhanced interoperability of cross-border infrastructure, and the adoption of digital systems that reduce trade and logistics costs. Building on the progress of the previous Kuala Lumpur Transport Strategic Plan (KLTSP) 2016-2025, the ATSP outlines ASEAN’s strategic directions as the region’s continued commitment to boost economic integration through seamless multimodal connectivity. Reports on the ministerial meeting also highlight the endorsement of complementary initiatives such as the ASEAN Regional Strategy on Sustainable Ship Waste Management, the Electric Vehicles Implementation Roadmap, and recommendations to digitalize last-mile transport services. Successful implementation of this sectoral plan will depend on sustained political commitment, public-private collaboration, and coordinated execution among member states.
