Indonesia Deepens Cross-Sector Collaboration to Enhance Tourism and Local Economic Growth

On August 13, 2025, the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism signed memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with four government bodies—the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), the Ministry of Environment, the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), and the Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas)—to strengthen the tourism sector through cross-sector collaboration.
The partnership with the Ministry of MSMEs focuses on developing community-based tourism and improving the marketing of local products. With over 6,000 tourism villages across the country, the initiative aims to empower MSMEs, attract investment, create jobs, and stimulate regional economic growth. MSMEs Minister Maman Abdurrahman emphasized tourism’s potential to drive job creation, estimating up to 25.6 million new employment opportunities.
Agreements with the Ministry of Environment and the BGN support sustainable tourism and public health. The Clean Tourism Movement promotes environmentally friendly destinations, while the collaboration with BGN integrates tourism villages into the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program. Meanwhile, the partnership with Basarnas will enhance tourist safety through coordinated search and rescue operations and integrated communications.
Indonesia’s Tourism Minister Widyanti Putri Wardhana noted that these partnerships align with the Ministry’s five flagship programs and Indonesia’s 2025–2029 National Development Plan. The goal is to build a tourism sector that is inclusive, sustainable, and capable of attracting high-quality international and domestic visitors.
