Malaysia Announces Efforts to Streamline Digitalization of Public Sector Data
On February 10, Malaysia launched the Public Sector Data Digitalization Policy (PPDSA) to support the governance of the expanded data-sharing platform Malaysian Government Central Data Exchange (MyGDX). These developments seek to enable integrated, secure management and use of government data, consolidate government services, and reduce redundancies in document submissions to government. According to Minister of Digital Gobind Singh Deo, Malaysia is exploring the possibility of opening MyGDX data to the private sector and indicated that the PPDSA could pave the way for the government adoption of agentic AI.
The PPDSA aims to address data fragmentation and system inefficiencies while strengthening national data security through new standards for infrastructure, data authenticity and reliability, and system sustainability. To enhance data sharing and collection, the PPDSA introduces a data classification framework covering Official Secret Data (e.g., top secret, secret, confidential, or restricted) and Official Data (e.g., open or controlled). Following the launch of the PPDSA and expanded MyGDX, the government plans to develop a comprehensive five-year data digitalization action plan (2026–2030) within the next six months and establish a Data Commission.
