Quantum Technology Emerges as Growing Topic of Interest
During the Singapore International Cyber Week, Minister of Digital Development and Information Josephine Teo emphasized the importance to advance quantum-safe preparation, announcing new minimum viable products focused on quantum computing on October 22. The Draft Quantum Readiness Index and Draft Quantum-Safe Migration Handbook build upon Singapore’s National Quantum Strategy released in 2024, which included a S$300 million (US$231 million) commitment to support quantum research and development over the next five years.
Across ASEAN, other Member States are also recognizing quantum technology as a priority, with steps outlined to support its growth, such as Thailand’s national roadmap (2020), Indonesia’s quantum research center (2022), Malaysia’s applied R&D agency (2024), and Vietnam’s innovation and expert network (2025). However, regional cooperation on quantum technologies is limited; though Singapore has been asked to facilitate regional discussions on this topic.
