Singapore Grand Prix Drives Tourism and Hospitality Demand Amid Softer Tourism Receipts
Singapore’s October 9–11 Formula One Grand Prix attracted 301,294 attendees, the second-highest in the event’s history, despite severe haze and challenging weather conditions. Organizers also reported record hospitality attendance. Alongside the race, Singapore hosted more than 40 meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) events, compared with approximately 25–30 in previous years, including TOKEN2049 and the Milken Institute Asia Summit.
The events generated significant demand across Singapore’s hospitality sector. Trip.comreported hotel reservations for October 9–11 increasing more than 80% year-on-year, while some hotels charged several times their usual rates. However, industry reporting indicated mixed occupancy, with some properties experiencing softer demand than in 2025 despite higher room prices.
The strong event turnout comes as Singapore’s broader tourism sector faces headwinds. Tourism receipts declined 6.2% year-on-year to SGD 7.21 billion in Q2 2026, alongside a 6.6% decline in international arrivals. First-half receipts remained relatively stable at SGD 15.71 billion, down just 0.3%. The developments emphasize the importance of major sporting and business events in attracting higher-value visitors and supporting tourism spending amid global travel uncertainty.
