AITI Launches Fact-Checking Platform to Curb Misinformation

The Government of Brunei’s Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry (AITI) has launched the Waspada.bn, a fact-checking platform to verify news and information shared on social media. The platform is expected to combat misinformation that might pose risks to individuals, organizations, and national harmony. The page is currently hosted on social media before becoming a full-fledged website in 2026.
Recently, Brunei’s government also enacted the Personal Data Protection Order that promotes organizational accountability and ensures transparency in handling personal data. Part of the order also mandates that AITI begin collecting feedback from the government and private sector. Public opinion on the data protection framework from the private sector, such as U.S. companies operating in Brunei, could significantly improve the confidence of businesses in the protection of their personal and client data. The Order is expected to be made effective in January 2026.
