Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore Remain Top Regional Medical Tourism Hubs
Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore continue to lead Southeast Asia’s healthcare medical tourism landscape in 2025, offering a wide range of services, from health screenings and fertility treatments to heart surgeries and cosmetic procedures.
Thailand remains the region’s top medical tourism destination, receiving over one million medical tourists annually. I According to Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the country’s health tourism industry in 2025 includes 92,813 operators, generating around THB 670 billion in total revenue. The country is especially renowned for its expertise in cosmetic surgery, alongside its growing wellness industry, offering services such as detox programs and spa therapies.
Singapore, consistently ranked among the world’s top healthcare systems, is another preferred destination for complex treatments such as cancer care, organ transplants, and cardiovascular procedures. Known for its advanced infrastructure and strong regulatory standards, the country attracts patients from across Asia and the Middle East. While generally more expensive than its regional peers, Singapore is seen as a premium option for those seeking high-quality, trusted care.
Meanwhile, Malaysia’s Selangor state is emerging as another key hub, especially in fertilityservices, which now surpass general health screenings in demand. In 2024, most medical tourists to Selangor came from Indonesia, contributing over RM474 million (US$ 100 million) to Malaysia’s medical tourism revenue.
Vietnam is also stepping up its role in regional medical tourism by integrating healthcare with cultural tourism. A recent memorandum of understanding between the country’s health and tourism ministries aims to promote medical travel and attract international patients.
